Nudity in horror movies is just as much a staple of the genre as gushing blood, slashing knives, and a hapless victim’s complete lack of self-preservation. That is not to say that the exposure of the human form in horror movies is simply used as a cheap, vicarious thrill (though sometimes it most certainly is) but it is also used to convey a sense of vulnerability that we can all relate to. After all, the only worse than being hunted down remorselessly by a demented killer is being chased in your underwear.
Here you will horror movies featuring nudity of varying degrees. At the low end of the scale expect to see the mild nudity of the tender sex scene in
Nicholas Roeg’s Don’t Look Now and the shower scene in Brian de Palma’s Carrie. Likewise,
the full-frontal exposure of Charlotte Gainsbourg in Lars von Trier’s Anti-Christ and the unflinching naked exploitation of Salo: 120 Days of Sodom will have much ratings here.
Whether it be for titillation or for sheer shock value, this is where you can rate horror movies based on either their gratuitous displays of human flesh or more tasteful flashes of it. So, this is where you will find some of the most paused moments in horror movie history appear in this category, so please rate them accordingly. We won’t judge… much.
